Kutsu: Peace policy yesterday and today – debate

INVITATION
Monday 14.4.2025 at 4-6 pm
Rikhardinkatu Library (Rikhardinkatu 3, Helsinki, Meeting Room Ture)

1 August 2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of the signing in Helsinki of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE), the so-called Helsinki Final Act. The successor to the Conference, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), was established in 1994.

Finland currently holds the OSCE Chairmanship. Fifty years ago, Helsinki was at the centre of world politics, promoting security through discussion and agreement. Where have we come today? How? And what can we do for peace today?

Contributors to the debate:
Tord Björk, International Peace Bureu. Miljöförbundet Jordens Vänner, Sweden
Anu Juvonen, Executive Director of Demo Finland, Civil Society Special Representative for the OSCE Presidency
Heikki Patomäki, Professor of World Politics, University of Helsinki
Bradley Reynolds, Historians without Borders in Finland

The discussion will be chaired by Outi Hakkarainen, Policy Adviser (Global Justice), Finnish Development NGOs Fingo and Thomas Wallgren, Professor of philosophy, Helsinki University Welcome!
