Nordic Peace Alliance:
The self-determination of every nation is supported by international law and the UN. We support the right of Greenlanders to determine their own destiny and Denmark's right to support the country for as long as Greenlanders so desire. We also support the right to free themselves from colonialism and its consequences for Greenlanders and all other peoples.
In the current situation, the Greenlandic parliament (Inatsisartut), has chosen to seek support from the EU and the European NATO countries. This cooperation is understandable, but not a long-term solution for Greenlandic independence. It is a result of the uncertainty and stress the Greenlandic population is currently experiencing.
Greenlandic independence exemplified through a joint statement from all Greenlandic political parties in January 2026. “We do not want to become Americans, we do not want to be Danish, we want to be Greenlanders”. A process of decolonization from Denmark today is now interrupted by Trumps threats. And it is also an engagement against environmental disasters and arms race, and it must continue
with strong international support. Through demonstrations, statements, resolutions, proposals for negotiated solutions against Trumps threats.
From our perspective it is obvious that a solution cannot be reached by military means, but only through diplomacy and international support.
The goal should be a decolonized and demilitarized Greenland as part of a demilitarized Arctic region.
